12 Newsworthy Updates from Atlassian in 2017

In 2017, Atlassian focused on putting Design and UX at the heart of their decisions. This strategy had impact on their users and how they collaborate and interact in a single platform across their tools. Another subject that had special attention was scalability and how Data Center solutions would help to provide flexibility, security, and reliability when handling more users, tools, and instances.

We would like to share some features and trends that were implemented in Atlassian Solutions this year:

Atlassian New Branding

Atlassian updated their branding to represent their core values. This initiative was aligned with the company focus on design and UX by unifying their identity across their products, targeting their latest acquisitions, and preparing for new expansions on the portfolio. As mentioned by Mike Cannon-Brookes, Co-CEO, teamwork is at the heart of the process. The capacity to provide a legendary support for their customers, previously represented by the Atlas Titan, continues as one of the main pillars of the company.

Stride, the new team communication tool

This year, Atlassian announced Stride – the new team communication tool. We can highlight the ability to turn conversation into actions and decisions without changing context. Focus mode is another important feature that allows to focus on your work without missing notifications, decisions, or discussions that occurred while you were away.

Data Center solutions and DevOps

The number of users and companies adopting Atlassian tools as critical mission applications is growing. With a clear focus on bringing scalability and flexibility, the Australian company invested this year in consolidating Data Center offers to support their enterprise customer needs. DevOps is another strategic area that Atlassian is putting efforts to help teams work with full potential, resulting in updates and integrations for Bitbucket and Bamboo.

Trello is here to stay!

And how about the recent acquisition to the Atlassian family, Trello? It was an important move to enhance their collaboration power on every team, not only on IT focused areas. Trello made its debut at its first Atlassian Summit US and showed the Atlassian community its capabilities.

With a visual approach, using cards and columns, inherited form Kanban, the solution brings the flexibility needed to organize boards in the best way to fit your work processes. A desktop version for Trello and new power-ups that integrate with Atlassian tools to improve project management and teamwork across all the software development cycle was announced at the Summit.

Atlassian Teamwork Platform

After years working to unleash teams potential, Atlassian identified some common processes in the way teams work, even when their activities and goals were completely different. Thinking about that, they developed a new way to connect teams with their work and help them improve collaboration: TeamWork Platform. It was based on three main pillars: People, Elements and Home. But what does it mean?

Connecting the right people to the right context, making it easier to work as a team across all tools and providing a unique platform so they can focus on getting work done.

Identity Manager for cloud applications

With the crescent growing of the Cloud users and the changes occurring on organizations that are expanding their user tiers, Atlassian needs to ensure more security on authentication and user access. Atlassian developed an identity manager to help organizations increase their security authentication processes with the addition of SAML Single Sign on. With the scalability, companies need more control and this solution implements more restricted password policies and enforced two-step verification, bringing more reliability to the operation.

Agile management with Portfolio For Jira

Focusing on expanding agile management to all project portfolio and align initiatives with strategic business goals, Atlassian released new features for Portfolio for Jira. Now they work with programs that bring visibility to multiple teams, project status, and allows them to prioritize their work. In addition, the tool provides a multiple project report dependency between projects.

JIRA Service Desk: a customizable way to support your customers

Atlassian also brought news to improve customer portal on JIRA Service Desk. As the landing page for supporting your customer, now it’s possible to add a background picture, banners, custom announcements, messages, and colors at the portal without coding a single line to make it happen. Now your touch point with your customer will be customized and will represent your branding.

To speed up issue solving and allowing customers to open tickets hassle-free, Atlassian added the capacity to embed the portal. This functionality allows customers to be further from their doubts and closer to resolution all without needing to change the context. This improves their experience by connecting the knowledge base to the portal.

Bitbucket + Docker

Now Bitbucket supports Docker. With the increasing growth of containers adoption, Bitbucket Pipelines allow work with docker images and service containers without needing to use other applications to work with the solution. These features help to bring Docker to test environments and integrates with the whole strategy of CD in a single tool.

JIRA Software + Microsoft Azure

Atlassian believes that to unlock teams’ full potential they need to have flexibility to configure applications in different environments. As a market move to keep Data Centers hosted on cloud, IaaS resources are being leveraged to reduce maintenance costs by using a host service they trust. After the organization was proven and it was found to make it easier to configure an AWS environment, Atlassian launched a template for Microsoft Azure allowing people to deploy their solution faster. Easily access the template by visiting the Microsoft Azure Marketplace and selecting the template on the Azure Resource Manager.

JIRA Software new interface and features

Besides having a new interface, Jira Software has already introduced some new features to support different ways of working and planning in teams with flexibility. By adding a backlog view when using Kanban, and filtering issues and versions at the panel, the tool allows to manage work in an easy way, regardless of the methodology used. We can also highlight a drag and drop feature to speed up issue distribution in epics or versions, divide issues in minor tasks, and assign priority schemes per project, which gives a more accurate task management platform.
